Gem Care

Caring your Diamond

The world’s hardest known material is a diamond. However, this does not imply that they cannot be destroyed. A strong blow can chip it, but only another diamond can cut and polish them. So, avoid wearing diamond jewellery when performing physical labour.

Diamond surface damage can result from exposure to intense heat. This occasionally occurs when jewellery is repaired without safeguarding or removing the diamond. Depending on the type and severity of the internal faults in the diamond, high heat can also result in colour changes, fractures, or cleavages.

Diamonds should be stored separately since they can scratch both other jewellery items and one another. It is ideal to store diamond jewellery in a compartmentalised box or a jewel case with a cloth interior.

Caring for Gemstones

Some gemstones are especially prone to losing their bright colour when exposed to prolonged exposure to direct sunshine. Gemstones can absorb substances that can affect their colour. A strong cleaning brush can also harm the surface. If you know how to maintain your stone house, it’s really simple.

Coral, amber, and other organic jewels like pearls must be treated carefully because they are porous and delicate. Be careful not to expose them to perfume, cosmetics, or hairspray chemicals as these can damage pearls in particular over time. They should be kept separate from other jewellery, which could scratch them, and kept in a box or pouch lined with linen. Wipe them down with a fresh, wet towel to clean them.
